    • As I was a solo female traveler and knew little about Bhutan when I first began planning my trip in February 2013, I was initially a bit tentative about approaching a local Bhutanese travel agent to organize my trip. However, those concerns quickly abated when I contacted Tenzin at Bhutan Oasis Travel. From our first email correspondence, Tenzin was highly professional, flexible and responsive. I felt very confident. And the (individualized) trip he organized for me was perfect! It covered everything I was interested in …. And so much more! Visits to the major temples (including Tiger’s Nest), monastery (a deeply spiritual experience), Dzongs (including Punakha Dzong), museums, a 4 day hike into the majestic Himalayas (nature at its very best - amazing!!), a visit to private textile and paper making factories (wonderful handcrafts and not touristy) and fresh food markets, even a homestay with private cooking lessons (for the food lover in me)!! What truly sets Tenzin apart in my mind is his attention to the more personal experiences that enrich your trip. His guides and drivers are wonderful: very knowledgeable and worldly, but also personable, kind, caring and fun. You leave with a true appreciation of the beauty and soul that makes Bhutan unique and incredibly special. Gross National Happiness is a genuine way of life in Bhutan. In addition to the planned visits, every day included lots of spontaneous ‘extras’ – a chance meeting with the King of Bhutan on the last day of the Paro Festival (wow!!), stopping to chat to a nomadic yak herder who was in her own world weaving yak hair on a hand made loom in the middle of nowhere or children as they make their way home from school, enjoying a picnic by the side of the river with delicious local foods, stopping to watch a local archery competition by the side of the road or stopping for the monkeys and yaks. The list goes on. Every day was special. My trip to Bhutan was life enriching and I can’t wait to return. I’d definitely recommend Tenzin at Oasis Travel to anyone who is planning to visit Bhutan.
